Benefits And Next Steps
Benefits
- Helps address a shortfall in specialist accommodation for older people in the Borough of Broxbourne, by providing a choice of accommodation types, alongside facilities for communal activities and receipt of care
- Provides local employment opportunities in the care sector, as well as in the construction and delivery of the retirement community
- Helps combat loneliness, isolation and anxiety in older people, which in-turn helps reduce pressure on the NHS. It has been demonstrated that older people living in supported, purpose-built accommodation are less likely to experience falls, or preventable worsening of health conditions, meaning that they are either less likely to need to attend GPs / hospital; or they can return home sooner if they do
- This will in turn will free up currently under-occupied family housing for the wider community, which is currently occupied by those moving into the new development
- The scheme means that older people in the local area will not need to move away when they require care and support
