Design
The proposed design aims to respect the existing character of the local area. The appearance of the development has been considered from the start, with a landscape-oriented approach integrating the bungalows, apartments, and communal facilities into natural surroundings.
The massing of the proposals responds to its neighbours, with single storey bungalows to the perimeter, and the three-storey apartment building at the centre of the site.
The existing trees to the site perimeter will be largely retained and enhanced by additional planting which is being added to improve the biodiversity of the site.
Proposed Materials
The proposed palette uses a mixture of local materials found in Cheshunt, clay brick in red or pale brown tones and metal used for external balconies and feature windows.
Local roofs are mostly plain clay tiles with some slate, and artificial slate to the more modern developments. The proposed roofs are pitched with artificial slate, and dark grey rainwater goods.
Large windows will create contemporary accommodation and provide a good quality of daylight into each apartment. Perforated metal screens to balconies and windows are used to provide shading and avoid overheating where necessary.
