Landscape And Ecology
The landscape proposals seek to protect, conserve and enhance where possible the key elements of the natural environment that currently exist on site and include:
- Trees at the site entrance and along the site’s western boundary will largely be retained
- Any gaps present within the existing hedgerow will be infilled with native hedgerow species
- Existing hedgerows along the northern and eastern site boundaries will be retained and enhanced with hedgerow trees where necessary to soften views of the apartment building from neighbouring houses
The landscape proposals also seek to create an attractive landscape setting with multifunctional outdoor spaces for future residents to enjoy and include:
- New planting within the scheme will include a broad planting palette to enrich biodiversity, assist in placemaking and identity within the development Large feature tree at site entrance to denote the gate way of the development; formal and medium sized street trees supplemented with hedgerow along the access to frame views towards St. Mary’s Church tower; columnar trees within the courtyard to soften the building elevation whilst defining varies garden spaces; and grouping of native trees within the outer edge of the development to create a parkland setting for the development
- Intervening hedgerow and shrub planting will be planted to the bungalow frontages and patios of ground floor apartment units will create ‘defensible’ boundaries and subtly separate the private interfaces to the more semi-public spaces
Potential outdoor functions for residents such as: informal seating provisions; outdoor dining area, multifunctional amenity lawn and scented garden within the courtyard; outdoor exercise stations, allotment area, orchard, sensory seating areas, circulation footpaths all maximising views towards St. Mary’s Church Tower.
Biodiversity
The proposed development intends to protect, conserve and enhance the existing natural resource with the aim to deliver an on-site biodiversity net gain of at least a 20%.
These include:
Native parkland tree planting
Retain, manage, enhance existing vegetation
Native shrub planting
Native wildflower grassland
Native marginal / aquatic planting
